The match

The Hot Spring Spas T20 Christchurch Black Clash in association with Wolfbrook pits New Zealand’s biggest sporting stars of rugby and cricket against each other in a high-intensity, hugely fun T20 cricket match at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

The Black Clash is a match where anything can happen and something always does!  Like the 2024 the best ever catch that wasn’t!

Entering it’s seventh year, Team Cricket currently lead the series over Team Rugby 4-2. Do not be fooled, Team Rugby players are no slouches on the cricket pitch, with every match coming down to the wire. In a magnificent move, for the 2025 match, Team Rugby have secured the man widely regarded as T20 Cricket’s best payer of all time, none other than Universe Boss himself, West Indies legend Chris Gayle!  The six slaying Gayle holds numerous batting records, is a genuine all-rounder and will bring his larger than life personality on and off the field!

Team Cricket will however field another stellar line up of NZ’s biggest cricketing heroes with an exciting yet to be announced wildcard player to cross the Tasman and join the side, whilst Team Rugby have a wealth of current and former All Blacks legends alongside Gayle to lead the upstart Team Rugby’s charge.

Christchurch’s Hagley Oval is one of New Zealand’s most stunning cricket grounds. The cricket-specific venue is ringed with a gently sloping embankment that allows cricket to be viewed the way it is meant to be – in the sun, on a picnic blanket, with a host of food and beverage outlets never too far away.
